Dr. Richmond requested the following information Personnel Appointments:

Request:     The principals who retire from drop...they leave in the middle of the year?
                     Cohen...what are his qualifications?

Response:

Principals who enter DROP may continue to work for the District up to 60 months (5 years) from the date they begin DROP and a specific deadline (separation) date is reported to FRS. Principals are not eligible to work beyond their 60 months even if the date falls in the middle of a school year. Some principals have opted to move up their separation date to coincide with a semester break or the end of a school year.

To further clarify, principals can change their DROP deadline date by requesting to move it up, but they cannot extend the date, least at this point in time. There is a bill currently circulating in Tallahassee that would allow school-based administrators to extend their DROP period up to an additional 36 months (3 years).
